We have been experimenting at the roastery for a while to get the easiest and best results for you to brew cold brewed at home and we think we have achieved it with the below.
You will need:
- Large glass container – (a large well-known mayonnaise or mason jar with a good screw top lid)
- Flour sieve or similar Chemex or V60 and paper filter – Chemex is great as it will act as the decanter. 225g of ground coffee, ground to paper filter grind Container with pouring lip 1100ml clean filtered or bottled water
1. Put one cup of water (220ml per cup) and the coffee in the container and stir gently to soak the grounds. Add remaining 4 cups water and the less you can stir the grounds at this point the better. Cover and let it stand at room temperature for 12 hours.
2. Strain coffee mixture through the flour sieve and then pour the strained mixture through the Chemex or V60 and paper filter. Of course if using a V60 use your large jar as the receptacle. Drain until last drip.
3. You should now have a clean and clear coffee concentrate that will be super smooth.
4. To make iced coffee, fill a 220ml glass with a little ice, add 60ml coffee concentrate and top up with cold milk and stir. For black cold brewed coffee used 60ml of coffee concentrate and top up with cold filter water. (Concentrate will keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks
